A Word from the President Mr Dennis Wright

What Is P&D? The PEAK & DUKERIES LANDROVER CLUB (1983) LTD is a one marque club , first formed we think in the sixties when the Northern Centres Club became too large and was divided into separate parts, these parts were all members of the old Rover Owners Club some of our members still have their membership cards. We became a limited company in 1983 hence the part in our title. We are a member club of the Association of Rover Clubs

.

P & D stands for PEAK and DUKERIES this is because our club in general is based within the catchment area of the Peak district and the Dukeries, the Peak district is well known geographically, but the Dukeries less well This is the area encompassing Mansfield, Ollerton and Worksop. We used to have more events in this location than we do at the present.

The aims of the club are to promote the Landrover Marque. We restore and use them.

Competitions are an integral part of our life and these are regulated by the MSA. As members of the ARC we have a common set of regs to work to so that co-operation between LR clubs is made easier.

One of our more high profile events is the Cross Country Vehicle Trial, (CCVT). This comprises usually of twelve sections (stages). A section is a course marked out by a series of gates (pairs of canes) through which a driver has to drive his vehicle without stopping or touching the gates. An involuntary stop or a touched gate incurs a penalty. A similar event is put on for road legal vehicles called an RTV, unlike the CCV the ground is set out to be less demanding/damaging than for the non road legal CCV event. Another event popular with the boy racers is the Comp Safari. This is a course set out over rough ground usually three miles or more in length. The object is to complete the course in the least possible time, very similar to rallying, apart from the severity of the ground which in turn reduces the speed of the vehicles. The entrants are classed according to engine size and suspension type.

We also have non-competitive events that anyone can enjoy. All the family can have a pleasant drive in the countryside on a Green Road Run. A green road is a general term for a old road that is not used as it once was. Very often these roads are forgotten about, consequently these are neglected and can be overgrown in places. Their advantage is that you get out to places not often seen from the main roads.

Our members also get involved in other activities where their Land Rovers are put to good use. One example of this is Motor Sport Recovery. There is even a licencing system through the MSA, and AMRO where free training is given.

Also there is the Peak Challenge.

This is just a brief description of what we are about, but there are more events that are varied and not fully covered here.
